Cascina Gilli Freisa d'Asti "Vigna del Forno" in the news

I love this wine, OK? This is a wonderful Freisa, one with more depth and length and body than any of the others I have drunk. Yes, that would include Mascarello's. 

Chiara Martinotti, the marketing director of Cascina Gilli, sent me an email the other day saying that, purtroppo, there was no 3 Bicchieri for them this year. (Honestly, given the way Barolo is fetishized, not least by the Gambero Rosso tasting panel, with other variants of Nebbiolo to boot, it will be a cold day in Daniele Cernilli's office when a Freisa is given three glasses.)

But enough of that.

Chiara did tell me that the 2007 Vigna del Forno had been awarded a Golden Star by Vini Buoni d'Italia, a group that encourages and extolls wines made from native grapes throughout the country. Bravo to the team of Cascina Gilli, not least the enologo Bruno Tamagnone and owner Gianni Vergnano.

hai ragione Terry, il barolo is fetishized here in italy, ma poi paradossalmente qui in Italia è un vino che non si beve più, mentre almeno la freisa, anche senza tre bicchieri, è apprezzata e bevuta (ora anche in canada!!).
Comunque il giorno che la freisa avrà finalmente i tre bicchieri ci sarà di che festeggiare!!

Io sono certo che a breve la Freisa raggiungerà il traguardo dei 3 bicchieri, certo è un lavoro lungo e periglioso ma Bruno Tamagnone giovane enologo di gran valore centrerà l'obbiettivo. Tieni presente che da poco al Gambero Rosso si è trasferito Gianni Fabrizio ex Slowfood e grandissimo esperto di vini del Nord Italia, persona che stimo e da cui mi attendo un occhio di riguardo per 3 vitigni piemontesi sottovalutati: Freisa, Grignolino e Carema. Già quest'anno sulla Guida ci sono delle novità positive che mi fanno ben sperare (i 2 bicchieri rossi al Grignolino de La Casaccia ne sono un esempio).
Il fatto che hai portato la freisa a New York fa di te un ambasciatore di estrema competenza ed eleganza, my dear Sir Terry :)

Congratulations are also in order to Chiara e Gianni per averci dato un prezzo attraente per il rilancio della Freisa CG qua. Fra poco trovabile in vari stati, non solo NY/NJ.
