Today we posted a geek wines post. And this evening Jeff passed on a new Wine Library podcast in which Gary V. tastes and describes Cascina Gilli's Vigna del Forno Freisa d'Asti 2007 and a wine from Languedoc-Roussillion. Click here to see it.
The Cascina Gilli Freisa is available at WL for $18.98.
Gary called the Freisa a "nerd" wine -- "geek" in others words -- and also likens it to a lumberjack and the Flintstones. You had to be there.
I'll say this: the wine will show better in several weeks, since it came into the country very recently. The rough edges will definitely soften.
Try it, you'll like it.

I loved Gary's comment on our freisa (FREISA gary, not fre-sia..;))
he is probably right when he says that few people have ever had on before, it's in fact quite a niche varietal, but we are surprised to see how much people (from all over the world) appreciate it once they taste it, probably because of its powerful fruity carachter, the nice tannins, the bright acidity. So, yes, a geek wine maybe, but smart geeks! As Terry says, do try it!
